A GD constable is the entry rank in the forces this exam recruits for: BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB, the Secretariat Security Force and Assam Rifles. SSF posts are filled on an all-India basis; every other force fills its posts state by state, with some kept for candidates from border and militancy or Naxal affected districts.
You can be posted anywhere in India. Joining can happen in batches, because each force appoints people as training places open up.[1]
- Class 10 pass from a recognised board by 1 January 2026. A result still being processed on that date does not count.
- 18 to 23 years on 1 January 2026. SC and ST get 5 more years, OBC 3, and ex-servicemen 3 years after deducting their service.
- CAPF posts are filled state by state, so you need a domicile or permanent residence certificate from the state you named in the form. A certificate from any other state gets your candidature cancelled at document verification.
- NCC certificate holders get bonus marks: 5% of the maximum marks for a C certificate, 3% for B and 2% for A. Ex-servicemen do not get this bonus.

- To be considered for the physical tests you need at least 30% in the CBE (UR), 25% (OBC and EWS) or 20% (all others), counted before any NCC bonus.
- SSC shortlists about 8 times the number of vacancies for the PET and PST, state-wise, area-wise and category-wise, on CBE marks plus NCC bonus.
- The race is pass or fail, and there is no appeal against it. If you fail the height or chest check you can appeal the same day.
- About 2 times the vacancies then go on to the medical exam and document verification.
- The final result and your force come from your CBE merit (with NCC bonus) and the force preferences you gave in the form, provided you clear every physical and medical stage. There is no waiting list.

Tips and tricks
- Get your domicile certificate now, from the same state you named in the form. Without it you can't sit the medical exam.[1]
- Train for the race early. It is pass or fail with no appeal, and it comes before the height and chest check.[1]
- If you hold an NCC certificate, keep the original ready for document verification. Without it the bonus marks are taken back.[1]
