Bihar Police Constable (CSBC Sipahi)

Can I apply for Bihar Police Constable (CSBC Sipahi) with my age, height and category, and how many marks would my run, shot put and high jump earn in the PET that decides the merit list?

Quick answer

The Central Selection Board of Constable (CSBC) recruits Sipahi for Bihar Police and the Bihar Special Armed Police. Its last general advert, 01/2025, had 19,838 posts at pay Level-3. You need Intermediate (10+2) or an equivalent, an age of 18 to 25 (more for reserved categories), and a height of 165 cm for UR and BC men, 160 cm for EBC, SC and ST men, or 155 cm for women. The written exam only gets you to the physical test: the final merit list comes entirely from the 100-mark PET, which is a timed run, shot put and high jump. No application is open now. The 01/2025 final list came out on 27 May 2026, and CSBC has not listed a newer general constable advert.

This check runs in your browser and sends nothing anywhere. It applies the PET marks table and the age and physical standards of CSBC Advt. No. 01/2025 (10 March 2025), checked 23 October 2026. A new advert can change any of them. It scores practice timings; only the board's own measurement on PET day counts.

Men's chests must expand by at least 5 cm. Women must weigh at least 48 kg. Transgender candidates follow the women's standards. These are measured at the PET and carry no marks, but missing any one of them ends your selection.[1]

The advert prints high jump marks only at these exact heights. It does not say what a jump between two of them earns (for example 4 ft 2 in), so our check gives the lower row's marks and says so.[1]

Who can apply

You must be an Indian citizen who has passed Intermediate (10+2). The advert also accepts the Bihar State Madrasa Board's Maulvi, the Bihar Sanskrit Board's Shastri (with English) or Acharya (without English), and any other qualification the state government treats as equal. You had to hold it by the last date to apply, which was 18 April 2025 in 01/2025.

CSBC takes your age from the date of birth on your matric certificate. Unreserved and EWS candidates must be 18 to 25. BC and EBC men can be up to 27, and BC and EBC women up to 28. SC and ST candidates (men and women) and Transgender candidates can be up to 30. Trained Bihar home guards get five more years on top of their category's limit.

The 01/2025 advert used two different dates for age. The minimum was checked on 1 August 2025, but the maximum was checked on 1 August 2023: the previous advert, 01/2023, had used 1 August 2022, and a 2006 state government letter lets the upper limit carry over in that case. In effect the upper limit was measured two years before the minimum. The next advert may set different dates, so read its age clause before you rule yourself in or out.[1]

Reservation: who gets which quota

Caste reservation is only for natives of Bihar, and you need a permanent residence certificate to claim it. Candidates from other states count as unreserved and must apply as unreserved, or the form is rejected. Disability (PwBD) reservation does not apply to this post.

The advert gave out-of-state women the women's reservation under UR, but that changed on 9 July 2025. A state government resolution now gives the 35% quota for women in direct recruitment only to women who are natives of Bihar, and CSBC applied it to every advert whose result was still pending, 01/2025 included. Women can still be selected on merit beyond the 35%.

The advert sets aside 50% of each category's vacancies for trained Bihar home guards; seats they can't fill go to other candidates of the same category. Grandchildren of freedom fighters get a 2% horizontal quota, and 30% of the vacancies in BSAP-17, Bodh Gaya go to candidates from ten districts affected by left-wing extremism: Rohtas, Kaimur, Gaya, Aurangabad, Nawada, Banka, Munger, Jamui, Lakhisarai and West Champaran.[1]

The written test

The written test is set at Class 10 level: 100 objective questions in two hours, one mark each, on an OMR sheet. It covers Hindi, English, Maths, Social Science (history, geography, civics and economics), Science (physics, chemistry and biology), and general knowledge with current affairs. When the test runs in several shifts, CSBC normalises the scores with the equi-percentile method.

Below 30% you are out. CSBC then calls about five times the vacancies in each category to the physical test. After that the written marks stop counting: the advert says they are qualifying only and are not part of the merit list.[1]

Documents, medical and the merit list

CSBC checks your documents, usually on PET day, and there is no second date if you miss it. Your rank is your PET total out of 100. If two people tie, the older one ranks higher; if they share a birth date, the one with the higher qualification; after that, the English alphabetical order of the name on the 10th certificate. You then get district police or a BSAP battalion by the preference you gave in your application.

Before appointment, the district SP or BSAP commandant arranges a medical under form 103 of the Bihar Police Manual, 1978, which tests eyesight, colour blindness, hearing and stammering. Police also verify your character, and a pending criminal case or a conviction makes you ineligible.[1]

What the 2025 cycle looked like

CSBC issued admit cards to 16,73,586 applicants. The written test ran in one shift a day on 16, 20, 23, 27 and 30 July and 3 August 2025. On 26 September 2025 it called 99,690 candidates to the PET, which ran from 15 December 2025 to 11 March 2026 at Patna High School, Gardanibagh.

79,932 turned up. 29,282 of them, a little over a third, failed the run, which left 50,650. Another 5,039 dropped out in the later events or at the document check. 45,611 cleared every stage (16,245 women, 29,349 men and 17 Transgender candidates), and 19,838 of them were selected on 27 May 2026. That is about one selection for every 84 admit cards. The written test narrowed the field, but among those who reached the PET the run did most of the cutting.

From the advert in March 2025 to the final list took a little over 14 months. The advert itself warns that selection usually takes about a year.[2]

Who it suits, and who may struggle

  • It suits a Class 12 pass from Bihar who can already run 1.6 km (men) or 1 km (women) close to the full-marks time: the PET alone decides rank.
  • A strong student who is a slow runner may clear the written test easily and still rank low, because written marks don't count in the merit list.
  • Candidates from other states can apply, but only as unreserved, and since July 2025 out-of-state women no longer get the 35% women's quota.
  • The PwBD reservation does not apply to this post, and the medical before joining tests eyesight, colour vision and hearing.

Tips and tricks

  • Train for the run before the written test, not after the result. In 2025 CSBC published the PET list on 26 September and the PET started on 15 December, and more candidates failed the run than any other stage of the PET.[2]
  • Marks in the run are worth twice those of the other events. Moving a man's time from 5:30 to under 5:00 adds 20 marks, more than the 16-mark spread between the lowest and highest shot put scores.[1]
  • Check your matric certificate now. CSBC takes your date of birth and name from it, and it breaks ties first by age and then by that name.[1]
  • Married women claiming a reserved category need caste and non-creamy-layer certificates issued in their father's name and address, not their husband's.[1]
  • Practise the shot put with the right weight: 16 lb for men, 12 lb for women. A lighter gym shot gives you distances you won't reach on the day.[1]

Questions people ask

Is there a Bihar Police Constable vacancy open now?

No. The last general constable advert, 01/2025, closed on 18 April 2025, and its final list came out on 27 May 2026. CSBC's 2026 adverts are for Special Branch Constable and Constable (Operator), which are separate exams.[4]

In 01/2025: 18 to 25 for UR and EWS, up to 27 for BC and EBC men, 28 for BC and EBC women, and 30 for SC, ST and Transgender candidates, with five extra years for trained Bihar home guards. The minimum was counted on 1 August 2025 and the maximum on 1 August 2023.[1]
