Study in the UK from India: UCAS dates, CAS and maintenance funds
I plan to study in the UK from India for 2027 entry. What are the UCAS deadlines, how much money must I hold for the Student visa and for how long, and what else does the visa need?
For a UK Student visa you must show your course fees plus £1,529 a month in London or £1,171 a month elsewhere, for up to 9 months. The money has to sit in the account for 28 days in a row, ending within 31 days of your visa application. The visa fee from outside the UK is £558, and the health surcharge is £776 a year. India is on the TB test list. For 2027 undergraduate entry, the 15 October 2026 deadline for Oxford, Cambridge and most medicine courses has passed. Most other courses take applications for equal consideration until 13 January 2027.

Undergraduate dates from UCAS. UCAS also notes that many universities keep accepting international applications later in the year. Postgraduate courses apply to the university directly: Imperial College London, for example, asks students who need a visa to aim to apply by 18 June of the year the course starts (Imperial).[7]

GOV.UK asks for English at CEFR level B2 for a degree-level course and B1 below degree level, shown through a Secure English Language Test from an approved provider. A university offering a degree can assess your English itself, as long as it is equivalent to B2. Universities then set their own scores: the University of Manchester says its undergraduate courses usually ask for the equivalent of IELTS 6.0 to 7.0.[6]
UK ENIC is the official UK agency for recognising and comparing international qualifications. Ask your university whether it wants a UK ENIC statement before you pay for one.[10]
Tips and tricks
- Count the 28 days backwards from the day you plan to apply: the closing balance date must fall within 31 days of the application.[1]
- London means the City of London and the 32 London boroughs. A campus just outside uses the lower monthly figure.[1]
- Book the TB test early; only Home Office approved clinics count.
- Read the CAS carefully when it arrives. If it has a spelling or date error, the university has to correct it before you apply.
