PTE Academic in India: fee, format, results and rescheduling
I need PTE Academic for a university abroad. What does it cost in India, how is the test laid out, how fast are the results, and what happens if I have to change my date?
PTE Academic is Pearson's computer-based English test, and universities in Australia, the UK, Canada and New Zealand take it for admission, as do many in the US. In India one price applies at all 57 test centres. You sit one two-hour session at a centre, and most people get a Score Report within two business days. Moving or cancelling the date is free up to 14 days before the test; after that, a change costs money.
This page may be out of date. It was due for a re-check on 30 November 2026. Confirm every rule with the official source before acting on it.

| Your goal | Book | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A degree at a UK university | PTE Academic | Pearson lists study at UK universities under PTE Academic |
| UK study below degree level, or not at a university | PTE Academic UKVI | These UK visas need the SELT version with a URN |
| A degree in Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the US | PTE Academic | The UKVI version adds nothing for these |
Same content, format and scoring. The UKVI sitting adds a Unique Reference Number (URN) for UK visa applications.[3]
Part 1 is Speaking and Writing together, 76 to 84 minutes across nine question types. Part 2 is Reading, 23 to 30 minutes. Part 3 is Listening, 31 to 39 minutes. The whole test, Speaking included, happens at the computer: unlike IELTS, there is no interview with an examiner. Pearson puts no more than 15 seats in a test room.[2]
PTE reports an overall score from 10 to 90 and a score for speaking, writing, reading and listening. Each university sets its own minimum. The University of Toronto asks for 65 overall with no part below 60, takes PTE Academic UKVI results too, and accepts scores only when they are sent electronically through myPTE. Look up the number for your own course, because programmes inside one university can differ.[4]
Pearson emails you when the Score Report is ready, usually within two business days and sometimes up to five. You read it in myPTE under My Activity. From there you can send it to as many universities as you like, and Pearson charges nothing for that. The score stays valid for two years from the test date.[3]
The cancellation rule gives a 50% refund from 13 to 8 days before the test and none at fewer than 7 days, but it does not say what happens at exactly 7 days. If your plans change around that point, read the full cancellation policy linked from the FAQ, or cancel at 8 days to be safe.[3]
Tips and tricks
- Book only when your date is firm. A free move is possible up to 14 days before the test, and after that a change costs at least half the fee.[3]
- Do not pay for PTE Academic UKVI for a UK bachelor's or master's. Pearson lists university study under plain PTE Academic, and the price is the same, so the only gain from UKVI is the URN.[3]
- Send scores from myPTE, not as a PDF or screenshot. The University of Toronto, for one, accepts PTE scores only when they come electronically through myPTE.[4]
- Leave a week between the test and your first deadline. Most results arrive in two business days, but Pearson allows up to five business days.[3]
- Check the 2-year validity against your intake, not your application date. A score that expires before you enrol can mean a new test.[3]
