NLSIU Bengaluru: CLAT 2026 closing ranks
Which CLAT rank got a B.A. LL.B. seat at NLSIU Bengaluru in 2026, in my seat class, and what does a Karnataka student seat need?
NLSIU Bengaluru took 310 students into its B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) in 2026 through CLAT. The General seats closed at All India Rank 101 in the first list and AIR 120 by the fifth and last list. This page puts every seat class side by side across the five lists the Consortium of NLUs published, with the seat count printed in each. It also covers the 10 extra seats for Karnataka students, the seven-year study rule that decides who counts as one, and the fee NLSIU asked for to confirm a 2026-27 seat. Every figure comes from the Consortium's PDFs and NLSIU's own notices.
This page may be out of date. It was due for a re-check on 31 January 2027. Confirm every rule with the official source before acting on it.
Closing ranks are from the Consortium's five CLAT 2026 lists; the seat rules and fee are from NLSIU's admissions page and its notification of 22.12.2025. Checked on 14 October 2026. When the CLAT 2027 lists come out, we add them here.

NLSIU called these figures provisional, subject to ratification by its governing bodies.[5]
NLSIU's seat matrix has 300 seats under the vertical split: 121 General, 81 OBC (non-creamy layer), 45 SC, 30 EWS and 23 ST. On top of those sit 10 extra seats for Karnataka students, which take the total to 310. All five 2026 lists printed these same counts.
Three horizontal quotas cut across the vertical classes: 15 seats (5%) for persons with disabilities, 90 seats (30%) for women and 75 seats (25%) for Karnataka students. The lists split those 75 as 30 General, 20 OBC, 11 SC, 8 EWS and 6 ST. Horizontal seats sit inside the vertical classes: each is a share of a class set aside for that group.[4]
NLSIU decides this by years of study. You count if you studied for at least seven years in a recognised educational institution in Karnataka, and you prove it with study certificates from those schools.
With fewer years in Karnataka, you can still qualify if a parent was serving outside the state for the years you studied outside it and belongs to one of four groups: defence personnel or ex-servicemen who declared Karnataka as their hometown, Karnataka State Government employees, Karnataka-cadre IAS, IPS or IFS officers, or Central Armed Police Force staff who declared Karnataka as their hometown. NLSIU's example: three years of study in Karnataka needs proof of the parent's service outside the state for the other four.[4]
The General seats closed at AIR 101 in the first list, moved to 108 in the second and to 120 in the fourth, and the fifth list made no further change. OBC went from 1,018 to 1,177 and EWS from 702 to 740.
Most Karnataka classes did not move after the first list. ST (Karnataka) did: from AIR 16,879 to 21,681 in the second list.[2]
Tips and tricks
- Keep the study certificates for every year in Karnataka ready before counselling. For the Karnataka seats NLSIU accepts only study certificates from recognised and affiliated schools.[5]
- Check the date on your EWS certificate. For the 2026 round it could not be older than a year on 7 January 2026, and an OBC non-creamy layer certificate with no validity date of its own had the same limit.[5]
- Look at the address on your admit card. NLSIU treated candidates whose CLAT 2026 admit card showed a Bengaluru address as Bengaluru residents and gave them no campus housing.[5]
- Pick Freeze only if you will pay. At NLSIU, Freeze meant paying the full university fee by the March date or losing the seat.[5]
- If you passed Class 12 in 2025 or earlier, upload the marksheet itself. Only candidates still waiting for results could submit a declaration instead.[5]
