AILET

How do I apply for AILET 2027 to get into NLU Delhi's B.A.LL.B., and am I eligible?

Quick answer

AILET is National Law University Delhi's own entrance test, and it is the only way into the university's five-year B.A.LL.B.(Hons.). A CLAT score does not count there. Online forms for AILET 2027 close on Tuesday 10 November 2026, and the test is on Sunday 13 December 2026, from 2 to 4 PM, on paper with an OMR sheet. You need 45% in Class 12 (42% for OBC, 40% for SC and ST), there is no age limit, and you can apply while you are still in Class 12. The seven steps below take you from registration to the test, and the checklist at the end fits on one A4 page.

CurrentApplies to 2027Last checked 1 November 2026

Forms for AILET 2027 are open until 10 November 2026 and the test is on 13 December 2026. Check NLU Delhi's website for any change to these dates.

Decide first

Should you apply for AILET 2027, and is anything stopping you?[1]

  • Do it now

    Apply before 10 November 2026

You want a seat at NLU Delhi and you have 45% in Class 12 (42% OBC, 40% SC or ST), or you sit Class 12 in 2027. NLU Delhi admits to its B.A.LL.B. only through AILET.

  • Check first

Ask about the PwD marks rule first

You are a PwD candidate below 45%. The eligibility page says 40% for PwD, but the admission notice gives 40% only to SC and ST. Ask the helpdesk before you pay.

  • Not for you

    You don't sit the test

You are a foreign national. You apply in the foreign nationals category by 30 April 2027 and need 65% in Class 12; NLU Delhi admits you on marks.

  • Get help

    Call the AILET helpdesk

The form or the payment is stuck, or your case isn't covered here. Call 011-40787555 (10 am to 5 pm on working days) or write to ailetsupport@nludelhi.ac.in.

The steps, in order

  1. Check that you can sit AILET 2027 Before you register

You need 45% in Class 12 or an equivalent exam, 42% if you are OBC, or 40% if you are SC or ST. There is no age limit, and students sitting Class 12 in 2027 can apply. You then have to meet the marks rule by a cut-off date NLU Delhi announces with the result, and a compartment in the admission year makes you ineligible.[2]

    Have ready

    • Class 12 marksheet, or your 2027 exam schedule
    • Your category, if you claim one
  2. Register with your own email and mobile Some days before 10 Nov

The email you register with becomes your user ID, and NLU Delhi won't change it later. Use an address you will still check in January, and give your own mobile number in the candidate field.[6]

    Have ready

    • An email address you control
    • Your own mobile number
    • A parent's mobile number and email
  3. Copy names and date of birth from your Class X certificate Same sitting

Type your name, your parent's name and your date of birth exactly as they appear on the Class X certificate. Pick the category carefully: NLU Delhi checks the certificate at counselling, and it must be in your own name. OBC (non-creamy layer) and EWS certificates must be dated on or after 1 April 2026.[4]

    Have ready

    • Class X certificate
    • Category certificate in your name (shown at counselling, not uploaded)
  4. Choose three test cities In the form

Pick three of the 32 test cities in order of preference. If fewer than 200 candidates choose a city, NLU Delhi won't open a centre there and you go to your second or third choice.[1]

    Have ready

    • Three cities you can reach by 2 PM on a Sunday
  5. Upload the photo, signature and any certificate Before you pay

The photo must be recent and in colour, on a white background, with the face filling about 75% of the frame, no cap or goggles (spectacles are fine), up to 1 MB. Sign in black or blue pen on white paper inside a 6 x 3 cm box, with no overwriting, up to 1 MB. Upload a BPL certificate, PwD certificate or passport (foreign nationals) only if it applies to you, each up to 2 MB. Save the photo and signature as JPG, which both of NLU Delhi's pages accept.[4]

    Have ready

    • Photo as JPG under 1 MB
    • Signature as JPG under 1 MB
    • BPL or PwD certificate, if you claim one
  6. Pay and check that the status changes By 10 Nov 2026

Pay ₹3,000, or ₹1,000 if you are SC, ST or PwD. SC, ST and women candidates below the poverty line pay nothing. The fee is not refunded. If the login still says payment pending after you paid, wait 24 hours, then write to the helpdesk with your application number, name, mobile, email and transaction details. If you were charged twice, the extra amount comes back on its own in 7 to 15 working days.[6]

    Have ready

    • A way to pay online
    • A screenshot of the transaction
  7. Correct, download the admit card, sit the test Test: Sun 13 Dec 2026

Open your submitted form and read every field. NLU Delhi opens a 3-day correction window after 10 November for wrong details or a blurred photo or signature. Download the admit card from your login from 30 November. Keep two copies of the same photo you uploaded, in case you have to paste one on the admit card. The test runs from 2 to 4 PM.[6]

    Have ready

    • Two copies of the uploaded photo
    • The admit card printout

What goes wrong

You assume CLAT covers NLU Delhi

What happens: It doesn't. NLU Delhi admits to its B.A.LL.B. only through AILET.[6]

Fix: If NLU Delhi is on your list, file a separate AILET form by 10 November.

Your name or date of birth doesn't match the Class X certificate

What happens: The guidelines ask for both exactly as on the Class X certificate, and the documents are checked at counselling.[4]

Fix: Copy them letter by letter, with the certificate beside the screen.

Your category certificate is in a parent's name, or too old

What happens: The certificate must be in your own name, and OBC (non-creamy layer) and EWS certificates must be dated on or after 1 April 2026. You show the original at provisional admission.[5]

Fix: If yours is older or in the wrong name, apply for a new one now.

You register with a cyber café's or a parent's email

What happens: That email becomes your user ID for good, and NLU Delhi won't change it.[6]

Fix: Register with an email address that belongs to you.

You tick YES to BPL by mistake

What happens: A submitted form can normally be deleted and filled again, but not once you have chosen YES to BPL under SC or ST.[4]

Fix: Answer the BPL question only if you have the certificate.

Someone asks for money to get you admission

What happens: NLU Delhi says it has authorised no agent or agency for admission.[1]

Fix: Pay nobody, and report it to admission@nludelhi.ac.in.

Variants: when the steps change

If this is youWhat changes
You sit Class 12 in 2027Apply now. You must meet the marks rule by the cut-off date NLU Delhi announces with the result, and a compartment that year makes you ineligible.[2]
SC, ST or PwD candidateThe fee is ₹1,000, and SC and ST candidates need 40% in Class 12. SC and ST candidates below the poverty line pay nothing (upload the BPL certificate; the form then can't be deleted). PwD candidates upload the PwD certificate and have 5% horizontal reservation; ask the helpdesk about the 40% rule.[5]
OBC (non-creamy layer) or EWSOBC candidates need 42%. The OBC certificate can be from the Central List or the Delhi State List, and both OBC and EWS certificates must be dated on or after 1 April 2026.[5]
Foreign national or OCI/PIOYou skip the test: 5 seats for each group, on 65% in Class 12, with forms open to 30 April 2027. An OCI/PIO candidate may also sit AILET as an Indian candidate and can file both forms.[2]

Who can sit AILET 2027

You need Class 12 (10+2) or an equivalent exam with 45% marks, 42% if you are OBC, or 40% if you are SC or ST. Students sitting Class 12 in 2027 can apply. NLU Delhi sets no minimum or maximum age.

The two official pages differ on one point. NLU Delhi's eligibility page gives 40% for SC, ST and persons with disability, while the admission notice of 7 August 2026 gives 40% only for SC and ST. If you are a PwD candidate counting on 40%, ask the helpdesk before you pay.

If you are still in Class 12, you must meet the marks rule by a cut-off date that NLU Delhi announces with the result. A candidate placed in compartment in the year of admission is not eligible.[2]

Worked example: how your marks add up

Each of the 150 questions carries 1 mark and each wrong answer takes away 0.25, so four wrong answers cost one full mark.

  • You attempt 120 and get 100 right and 20 wrong: 100 minus 5 gives 95.
  • You attempt all 150 and get 104 right and 46 wrong: 104 minus 11.5 gives 92.5. That is lower than the first case, even though you answered more.
  • Two candidates both finish on 95: the one with more Logical Reasoning marks ranks higher. If those match too, the older candidate goes first, and after that a computerised draw of lots decides.

The 32 test cities

Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Dehradun, Delhi, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Greater Noida, Gorakhpur, Gurugram, Guwahati, Gwalior, Hisar, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Varanasi and Visakhapatnam.

If fewer than 200 candidates pick a city, NLU Delhi won't open a centre there and you go to your second or third choice.[1]

What this page covers

This page covers the B.A.LL.B.(Hons.) only, the one undergraduate course in NLU Delhi's 2027-28 admission notice. The same notice also lists a one-year LL.M. through AILET, which is outside this page. Course fees, cut-off marks and counselling dates are not here, because NLU Delhi had not published them for 2027 when we checked.[1]

Tips and tricks

  • CLAT 2027 forms closed on 31 October 2026. AILET forms stay open until 10 November, so if you missed CLAT you can still apply to NLU Delhi through AILET. Don't leave it to the last day.
  • Logical Reasoning is 70 of the 150 marks and also breaks ties, so spend most of your revision time on it.
  • Answer a question you're unsure of only when you can rule out at least one option. Four wrong answers cost a full mark.
  • Draw a 6 x 3 cm box on plain white paper, sign inside it in black or blue pen, then scan it. Check the preview: NLU Delhi wants the signature clear and fully visible.
  • If your OBC or EWS certificate is dated before 1 April 2026, apply for a fresh one now so you have it at counselling.
  • Pick test cities you can reach by midday on a Sunday. Your first choice may not open if fewer than 200 candidates pick it.
