The advertisement fills 2,863 posts for the UT's General Administration Department. Most are Class-IV (Multi Tasking Staff) posts in departments such as Public Works (R&B), Floriculture, Agriculture Production and Animal and Sheep Husbandry. The Estates Department and a few others also have Sanitation Worker posts.
Posts come in three cadres. After the corrigendum of 1 October 2026, 105 are UT cadre, 1,990 are divisional cadre (1,093 in Jammu division and 897 in Kashmir division) and 768 are district cadre. The corrigendum's Annexure A gives the split by department and category, item by item.
JKSSB says the number of posts may go up or down before selection ends, and the advertisement is subject to any pending court case.[2]
You must be a domicile of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, with a domicile certificate from the competent authority in the prescribed format, issued by the cut-off date. The advertisement makes the cut-off the last date for online applications.
For Class-IV (MTS) the qualification has both a floor and a ceiling: at least Matric, and no higher than 10+2. For Sanitation Worker it is at least 8th pass and no higher than 10+2. A candidate with a qualification other than the one prescribed is not eligible, and the original certificates must show you had it by the cut-off date.
Reserved category claims need a valid certificate in the prescribed format as on the cut-off date. Candidates claiming the extra marks must fill them in the form and hold the certificate within the cut-off, or the claim is not considered.[1]
- Written test: objective multiple-choice questions, set in English only. A wrong answer loses one fourth of that question's marks.
- Extra marks: up to 15 more for the personal criteria in the table above, which differ by cadre.
- Merit = written test marks plus those extra marks, under S.O. 184 of 2020.
- Allocation: JKSSB assigns cadres and departments by merit and the preferences you gave. Once notified, the allocation is final.
- Document verification for shortlisted candidates after the exam. The syllabus, exam date and centres are notified separately on jkssb.nic.in.

You give preferences for Class-IV (MTS) items and for Sanitation Worker items separately, in the online form. JKSSB's instructions notice of 9 October 2026 says these preferences cannot be edited once submitted, even if an edit option opens later. If you leave preferences out, you are taken to accept whatever cadre and department the Board allocates.[3]
Tips and tricks
- Check that your domicile certificate and any category certificate are in the prescribed format and dated on or before the cut-off. JKSSB rejects certificates in other formats.[1]
- Rank the cadres and departments with care before you submit. JKSSB will not let you change them later.[3]
- Claim every extra-marks criterion you qualify for in the form itself. A claim not made in the form is not considered later.[3]
- Practise in English. The questions are set in English only, and guessing costs a quarter mark per wrong answer.[1]
