Study in France from India: Études en France, funds and visa

I want to study in France from India in September 2027. What is the Études en France procedure, how much money must I show each month, and when do applications open?

Quick answer

From India, a long-stay student visa for France starts with the mandatory Études en France procedure run by Campus France. From 1 August 2026 the minimum resources a student must show rose to €877.50 a month, up from €615. France-Visas shows an indicative visa fee of €50 for Études en France countries such as India. For first-year bachelor's places through the DAP route, the 2027/28 cycle opened on 1 October 2026, universities reply before 30 April 2027 and students answer before 31 May 2027.

From Campus France's Études en France page. Master's programmes set their own dates: Université Paris-Saclay, for example, admits on its own platform first and then you complete the Études en France file (Paris-Saclay).[4]

How the procedure runs from India

  • Create your file on the Études en France portal and apply to programmes there (or, for some master's courses, on the university platform first).
  • Attend the academic interview if Campus France asks; bring originals of every document.
  • Once you hold unconditional acceptance, apply on france-visas.gouv.fr and book the visa appointment, at least three months before the course starts.

Recognition of Indian qualifications

ENIC-NARIC France, part of France Éducation international, issues attestations comparing foreign diplomas with French ones, which you can ask for when continuing studies. It requires that the diploma is recognised by the authorities of the country that issued it.[7]

English-taught courses

We found no national English score for the French student visa. Your language level goes into the Études en France file, and each programme sets the level it wants, so read the course page.[1]

Tips and tricks

  • Use the new €877.50 monthly figure: anything prepared against the old €615 is now short.[1]
  • Take original documents to the Campus France interview, not just copies.[1]
  • For a master's, check whether the university wants its own application first; Paris-Saclay does.[6]
  • The France-Visas fee is marked indicative; confirm it on the portal when you book.
